Brandon's Background
Brandon Moist attended Lewistown High School and was among the first class to graduate from Mifflin County High School in 2012. He then attended Shippensburg University where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in History and International Studies in 2016. While at Shippensburg, he studied abroad in Amman, Jordan where he studied the Arabic language and culture. He then continued his education at American University in Washington, D.C. where he earned his Masters Degree in International Affairs in 2018.
Brandon's Passions
Brandon's greatest passion was history, especially the Civil War. He loved to share his knowledge of the Civil War as well as other areas of history. He was an avid Civil War reenactor, looking forward each year to portraying what soldiers went through in the past. He was a volunteer tour guide at Bristoe Station Battlefield in Virginia, and was studying to become a tour guide at Gettysburg Battlefield in Pennsylvania.
In Honor of Brandon
Brandon unexpectedly passed away in December 2020, at the age of 26. Brandon’s selfless personality was contagious to everyone who met him. This scholarship will honor Brandon through helping a student to achieve a career in History and/or Education.
Scholarship Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
Be a high school senior attending Mifflin County High School
Will attend an accredited four year college or university, majoring in a history and/or education related field OR will attend an accredited four year college or university while displaying involvement in Civil War/battlefield history (such as civil war reenactment)
During term of the award, student must be considered a full time student by the college or university
Recipient must be a U.S. citizen
Maintain “B” average or higher throughout high school career
